About the bees

Howat’s Hives honey is collected by bees kept at various sites in the area around the New Forest and Southampton, Hampshire.

This honey is made from the nectar of a vast number of flowers: willow and hazel in early spring, then dandelions, top fruits, soft fruits, oil-seed rape, field beans, clover; various tree varieties such as lime and horse chestnut; many different garden plants, until the blackberry in July and August. Some of the bees can reach the Ling heather on the New Forest in August; others are taken into the depths of the Forest to collect the pure and unique Heather Honey.

Some colonies are taken to orchards in early spring to help pollinate the apples, pears, plums and cherries, and to the blue fields of borage in July.
